LEVEL 01 / ENVIRONMENT DESIGN
The
Blackglass
Yard.
A familiar backyard rendered in hard-edged shadow, bone-white clues, and cold flame. The first field teaches a heavy dog how to read a haunted neighborhood.
01 / ORIENTATION
Read the yard.
Six spaces interlock around a broken shortcut. Click a region to inspect its teaching beat, terrain, and threat profile.
02 / FIELD TEST
Take the yard
for a spin.
Move the dog through a tiny playable slice of the level. Collect the scent motes, avoid the cold-flame cracks, and reach the gate.
The mini prototype uses the same stepped terrain language as the map. It is a companion preview; the full combat demo opens in a new tab.
Play full Blackglass Yard ↗02 / MATERIAL SYSTEM
Contrast is the compass.
No soft bloom. No noisy texture. Important objects earn their meaning through a strict grayscale base and three charged colors.
TILE LOGIC
Every edge is stepped.
16 × 16 tiles assemble into a 64 × 64 character grid. Wedge corners, diagonal transitions, chipped pavement, and fence shadows keep the world angular and readable.
See the teaching beats →03 / FLOW
Six beats. One lesson.
The route escalates from familiar to uncanny, then folds the player’s new skills into the Warden arena.
Blanket Corner
Safe start. Learn movement, idle animation, collar silhouette, and the first scent mote.
NO ENEMIESSplit Paving
Two Cinder Mites emerge. Bark first, then tail whip. A treat waits behind a cracked slab.
FIRST CONTACTDead Hedge
A Fence Skulker hides in shadow. Sniff the glint, turn toward it, bark to reveal.
READ THE SHADOWDrain Run
A Bluejaw Grub blocks the route. Expose its underside, then commit to tackle.
USE TERRAINBlackglass Patch
Two Ash Houndlings create a chase. Bait the dash, sidestep, counter from the flank.
COMMIT + COUNTERBroken Gate
The Yard Warden guards the exit. Three phases, marked lanes, one exposed core.
FINAL TEST04 / THREAT ATLAS
Readable creeps.
Every enemy telegraphs in blue before it moves. The player wins by reading the shape, not by grinding the numbers.
FIRST ENEMY / SNIFF TUTORIAL
Cinder Mite
A low-profile creep made of three charcoal wedges and one blue eye. It hides under soil, flashes twice, then lunges forward.
05 / SPRITE STUDY
Shapes with
teeth.
A small field guide to the silhouettes. Select a card to inspect what the shape communicates before the animation even starts.
SELECTED SILHOUETTE
Big Dog
Wide shoulders, low tail, white muzzle and chest blaze. She should feel heavy before she moves.
FIELD FILE 01 / EXIT CONDITION
Follow the cold flame
to the broken gate.
When the Warden cools from white to pale blue, the yard opens into a larger black-and-blue world beyond.
