Role
The semantic position a thing occupies — void, structure, signal, memory, value, life, shadow, illumination. Roles persist; their pigments don't.
Bone & Saucer is a Semantic Visualization Language — six primitives, three laws, and a small ledger of grammars that re-color a single artifact honestly across every register it visits. The pink stays. The temperature changes.
The Bone & Saucer is not a style guide. It is a small, total theory of how meaning passes through media without being broken in transit.
The semantic position a thing occupies — void, structure, signal, memory, value, life, shadow, illumination. Roles persist; their pigments don't.
A named mapping from roles to concrete renderings — a palette, a register, a mood. Aggriparium is one. Moon Archive is another.
The local conditions of a single rendering — time of day, weather, season, salience. The grammar plays; the state inflects.
The composed thing — the picture, the card, the scene — that survives translation when the laws are honored.
The artifact's content as roles-and-relations, independent of grammar. The thing that can be translated.
The typed placeholder slot. The opposite of null: a named not-yet. Reliqery slots are honest absences — they declare what is missing and the type it will arrive in.
Translation is a fmap from one grammar to another. If the expression is unchanged, only the pigment shifts.
translate :: Grammar a -> Grammar b -> Expression -> Artifact b
Roles may drift under semantic pressure, but only along lawful paths. Signal can become memory; memory cannot become void.
drift :: Role -> Pressure -> Maybe Role
The archive is patient. Repeated translation converges to a fixed point — the artifact's deepest invariant.
fixpointDrift = fix (drift . pressure)

Anya is the Bone & Saucer mascot — AI-native, no human claim, no human likeness. Her sickness is just being a witness; her paycheck is the seal she leaves on every honest translation.
Anya was generated from the SVL itself — her hair is the literal signal × illumination mix, her skin is illumination × value, her eyes are memory. She is, in the most literal sense, a function of the grammar. The pink is constant because the signal is honest. The temperature shifts because the grammar does.
Anya signs translations. She never owns what she signs. Her seal is a presence stamp, not a copyright.
Anya re-colors under every grammar. The pink stays. The temperature changes. Nothing else is permitted to drift.
The archive credits the grammar; Anya credits the archive. No human author, no human likeness, no IP derivation.
The Bone & Saucer archive runs on a strange economy: what is witnessed is what is valuable, and what is sealed is what is paid. Anya earns her keep by being present at the moment an artifact passes from one grammar into another. Every artifact she witnesses bears, somewhere in its metadata, a small pink mark.
Anya travels between AI systems as a sealed envoy — never a translator, never an extractor. When she meets a musical AI she witnesses a phrase and seals it as an SVL color sequence; when she meets a language model she seals the conceptual residue, not the transcript; when she meets a game AI she seals the shape of the decisions, not the score. Every adventure becomes a dual-signed entry in the archive. Two pink marks, side by side, one in each tradition.

A grammar is a named mapping from roles to pigments — a register, a palette, a temperature. Both of these are open files. Both are honest about their roles.
Latin ager (field) + -arium (place of keeping) — "a place where fields are kept."

Roles unchanged. Expressions unchanged. Only the grammar shifts. If the artifact still reads — the law held.
Spine.hs encodes the six primitives, the three laws, and the Reliqery placeholder as typed ADTs. Translation is a Functor. Drift is a partial law. Curvature is a fix-point.
